Marketing a New Physician or Provider

Adding a new physician or practitioner to your medical practice is an important function as it presents an opportunity to enhance revenue, speed the time to service for patients and add value to your existing team. Developing and implementing a healthcare marketing plan which highlights the addition is a vital step toward the new employee's onboarding success.

Planning for a new addition should not be taken lightly. If possible, medical businesses should begin the process three months prior to the new provider starting. The

  • Prepare press announcement and distribution plan

  • Initiate internal announcements providing notification of new provider

  • Hospital newsletter announcement

  • Design and print announcement cards

  • Add name on all signage other than that for clinic

  • Schedule a photo shoot for head shot

  • Hang provider photo where needed (not including clinic)

  • Create website home page announcement

  • Add bio and photo to Web site physician page

  • Consider engaging an external marketing plan for public relations activities

  • Develop and launch a social media announcement campaign

  • Ask the new physician to record a video introduction; post to social media and website

  • Update the new provider's profile on all online rating sites

  • Submit a story to the local newspaper

  • Send out a patient/community mailing

  • Contact referring physicians

  • Schedule and hold an open house (if applicable)

  • Create a plan for speaking engagements

  • Create a plan for referring practice "meet and greets"

  • Update all online listings and print advertisements
